Privacy Notice

Hg respects your privacy and recognises the importance of protecting your personal information.

This privacy notice sets out what personal information Hg collects via your use of Hive, what purposes Hg uses that information for and how it is protected. It also gives you information about your rights.

Who is Hg?

  • In the United Kingdom, Hg is the trading name of HgCapital LLP and Hg Pooled Management Limited, both of which are authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority with the following FCA registration numbers: HgCapital LLP: 478870 & Hg Pooled Management Limited: 122466
  • In Germany, Hg operates through Hg Advisory GmbH & Co. KG, which provides services directly to Hg.
  • In the United States of America, Hg operates through Hg (US) Inc., which provides services directly to Hg.

When we say Hg, or we or us, in this privacy notice we mean any of these Hg organisations.

Who does this notice apply to?
This notice applies to any authorised member of the Hg Hive platform.

Information collected via your use of Hive

Hg collects information from you when you interact with us on Hive, e.g. when:

  • you create an account. You will be required to provide your name, company email address, company name and your role. Other information, such as your photo or LinkedIn details are optional.
  • you visit and interact with Hive and/or other members on Hive.
  • you send us an email.
  • you upload information.
  • you contact us by any means with queries, interests or concerns.
  • you choose to complete surveys we send you; or
  • you choose to provide us with additional information, for example completing your profile page in Hive.

In its basic form the information thatHg collects on theHive includes; names, company email addresses, company name and job titles. To utilise extended features in Hive, you will be invited to provide further personal information regarding your profile, examples of which may be, provision of a photograph, skills and expertise. The provision of this information is purely optional. Should you decide not to provide such information, you will still be able to use Hive but you may find that you do not experience the full benefits of the platform and resources available to you.

Purposes of processing and lawful grounds

Hg will use your information for the following purposes:

  1. Marketing: Hg may send you email notifications regarding the communities, files, and chats you are involved in, such as when a new file or resource is uploaded, when a new message is sent or received, or when a chat is archived. You may opt out of receiving any or all these email notifications at any time by changing your settings in your account or by following the instructions in the email.
  2. Service communications: Hg may also send you email notifications regarding Hive, such as when there are changes to Hive, when there are new features or services, or when there are issues or problems that need your attention. You may not opt out of receiving these email notifications, as they are essential for the operation and maintenance of Hive.
  3. Hive platform, service and membership improvements: To improve the Hive platform functionality, features, services and membership.
  4. Legal obligations: To comply with any applicable law, rule, or regulation, or any legal process or governmental request.
  5. Compliance and investigations: To enforce the Terms or any other policies or guidelines posted on Hive, to protect the rights, property, security, or safety of Hg, Hive, or any third party, to investigate, prevent, or address any fraud, legal, security, or technical issues.
  6. Network and information security: To ensure network and information security e.g. monitoring members’ access to Hive for the purpose of preventing cyber-attacks.

Hg and Portfolio Companies have legitimate business interests in the above purposes of processing. Members can object to the processing either as described above or by contacting data@hgcapital.com 

Who we share your information with

Hg Group: Hg shares your information within the Hg Group and Portfolio Companies where applicable.

Service providers: Hg shares your information with third parties, including service providers to provide Hive and related services. Where a third party is used, we will ensure that each such service provider has agreed to protect and maintain the confidentiality and security of personal information Hg shares with them.

Other third parties, such as law enforcement or regulatory bodies, where applicable.

Transferring information internationally.

Like many global organisations, Hg has offices in a number of countries (listed here). We also use systems and interact with other parties globally. For example, Hg engages third-party IT service and software providers that host, store and process members data on Hive in and outside of the European Economic Area (the “EEA”) and the United Kingdom. This means that your information will be transferred to a country outside the EEA – such as the US, the UK or other non-EEA countries – or to a country outside the UK. These countries may not offer the same level of data protection as in your home country and may not be deemed as providing an adequate level of data protection under applicable data protection laws (“Non-Adequate Country”). Where your information is transferred to a Non-Adequate Country, care is taken to ensure that the transfer is subject to appropriate safeguards in accordance with applicable data protection laws. Retention and deletion

Your account will be retained for as long as you are a member of the Hive platform. Thereafter for a limited period in line with Hg retention periods.

Channels will expire after 3 months of inactivity, but members will have the opportunity to save the content / continue the chat before a channel is archived. Hg retains the right to alter the timeframe in which the channels are archived based on community engagement and will alert members before closing any discussions.

Your rights

Members have the following rights:

  • request a copy of the information we hold about you.
  • object to the processing of your information. e.g. to object to marketing. You can do this by updating your preferences in Hive or click on the unsubscribe link at the bottom of applicable emails.
  • withdraw consent to our processing of your information (to the extent that such processing is based on consent).
  • restrict our processing of your information.
  • ask that we delete or correct the information that we hold about you; and
  • ask for personal data you have made available to us to be transferred to you or a third party in machine-readable formats.

Other than the right to object to marketing, these rights are not absolute: they do not always apply, and exemptions may be engaged. We may, in response to a request, ask you to verify your identity and to provide information that helps us to understand your request better. If we do not comply with your request, we will explain why.

Hg will review this notice periodically and will make appropriate updates. You are responsible for reviewing the current version of this notice before using Hive.
